LA Cops could have been fun. There is still some elements of gameplay that did make it a fun experience, but the Modern Dream developed action/puzzle game does fall short of a fantastic experience. It’s an 1970’s inspired buddy cop game featuring eight main missions and several side missions with several difficulty levels to suit any level of gamer. It’s a short game, at most lasting a few hours of gameplay. However, despite some challenging moments, the game can lose its shine early on and can be a bit of a chore to play through. The game doesn’t have an overarching story, rather there are eight different missions to be completed. Set in various locations around the USA, they range … Continue reading
To see Omega Force to develop a game such as Toukiden is quite interesting. Despite their decorated history focusing on musou games such as Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and the recently enhanced port of Bladestorm, Omega Force dives into the action role playing genre. Toukiden: The Age of Demons was released in June 2013 in Japan and February 2014 in North America and Europe, exclusively for the Playstation Portable (in Japan) and the Playstation Vita. The game was a hit in Japan and an enhanced port, entitled Toukiden Kiwami was developed for the two Playstation handhelds as well as the Playstation 4 (only in the west). It can be safely said, then, that playing Toukiden Kiwami has been an enjoyable … Continue reading
Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea is the latest game in the Atelier series by Gust and Tecmo Koei. Atelier Shallie follows the journey of two alchemists, named Shallie, that are searching for the secrets of the Dusk Sea in order to find a way to stop the droughts that are plaguing the villages of the sea. The games biggest differences in comparison to most in the JRPG genre is that it allows players to choose to follow to story of either Shallistera or Shallotte, the two Shallies that the game is named after, although the plot does converge at some point. It’s definitely an interesting game to follow. The story in Atelier Shallie starts out as a kind … Continue reading
It’s the 14th century. Two of Europe’s most powerful kingdoms, England and France, are locked into battle. Normanday, the Flanders, Brittany see more bloodshed by the day. For 120 years, as one century passes into the next, these two kingdoms fight for control of France. This is the setting for Bladestorm Nightmare, the latest game from Koei Tecmo and Dynasty Warriors developer Omega Force, available for the Playstation 4, PC and Xbox One. It is a remake of Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 but with additional features, including a second story mode entitled Nightmare. The meat of the game revolves around the legendary conflict. However, instead of taking control of key figures, such as … Continue reading
SingStar has made the leap to the eighth generation as it has made its debut on the PlayStation 4 with SingStar Ultimate Party. With a strong focus on multiplayer, a long list of songs to select and the classic singing gameplay, the SingStar series is usually an excellent choice for karaoke night. I say usually because the SingStar Ultimate Party falls quite flat. While the game doesn’t change a formula that doesn’t need fixing, it strips down on the multiplayer aspect, provides a disappointing on disc track list and provides an average app where the mic needs to be retuned. At it’s core, the familiar formula of the Singstar franchise is not lost. The objective of the players is to … Continue reading
Ar nosurge: Ode To An Unborn Star is the JRPG prequel to the Ar Tonelico video games as developed by Gust. Ar nosurge is published by Tecmo Koei and is a personal tale between a small community of characters and their personal plights during a war between humans and a race known as the Sharl. Players play as characters Delta and Cass, as well as Earthes and Ion, in a meta experience that may or may not seem like it’s designed to sell a soundtrack. Players of the PSVita game, Ciel NoSurge, will remember Ion as the main character in that game. However, the interesting storyline is something that will keep players moving through all of the games layers. The … Continue reading
Assassin’s Creed: Liberation is a game that was initially released for the Playstation Vita and was a companion game to the main entry in the series of that year, Assassin’s Creed III. What separates Assassin’s Creed: Liberation from the main entry is it’s unique storyline and back to basics gameplay. The HD release, Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD, is the Vita game ported to main consoles and PC, to carry this integral experience across for fans of the franchise. What was interesting in Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD was the main character, Aveline’s, character arc. At the start of the game, we see her as the daughter of what appears to be an African slave living the Frenchest part of a newly … Continue reading
