Anima: Gate of Memories Review (PlayStation 4)

Anima: Gate of Memories is a Kickstarter project based on the Spanish tabletop RPG Anima: Beyond Fantasy developed by Anima Project. In this action RPG, players control two characters; the Bearer and Ergo, as they attempt to retrieve an artifact known as the Byblos. Despite the ambitions of the development team and their passion to deliver the best product they can, Anima Gate of Memories turns out to be a mediocre experience. While the lore of the world, combined with the decent graphics and sound, turns out to be very creative and combat is surprisingly well thought out, the game suffers from frustrating platforming, a uncooperative camera, a dull narrative and uninteresting characters. In Anima: Gate of Memories, two members … Continue reading

In Schrodinger’s Cat, players assume the role of the titular creature as they explore and solve puzzles in the Particle Zoo of various subatomic particles. The game is a simple game, but it has many complexities using a combo system where players can combine particles to create various effects, assisting them in their exploration and safety within the Zoo. The story of Schrodinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark begins with a nice little explanation on the world that the game takes place in. It’s something along the lines of a pocket world on the inside … Continue reading

Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires Review

dynasty-warriors-8-empires-box-art

Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires is the latest Dynasty Warriors game from Omega Force and Koei. Empires is built on the same engine that runs Dynasty Warriors 8 and adds in the Empire mode seen in previous Dynasty Warriors Empires games, such as 6 and 7. In Empires, players take up the role of an officer in a warring China, with many factions battling each other over territory. The goal, it seems, is to conquer all of China and unite them under the same banner. At it’s core though, it’s still a Dynasty Warriors game. Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires doesn’t particularly have a storyline for players to follow. Instead, players choose from pre-built (or custom) scenarios in Empire mode, scenarios that … Continue reading

The Escapists Review

the-escapists-cover-art-001

The Escapists is the prison breaking game from Mouldy Toof Studios and Team 17. The game has the player controlling a prison inmate in order to escape from prison, using nothing but their wits and the resources available to them during their tenure at the prison. We have also previously Previewed the title. Check that out here. Unlike most games, The Escapists doesn’t really have a strong and compelling storyline to push the player through the game. Instead, it leaves the reason that you’re in the prison vague and focuses almost entirely on the prison breaking aspect of the game. One could say that it’s up to the player to reason to themselves why it is that they’re in the … Continue reading
